If you do not intend to install the pavement light yourself we can offer an installation service through approved installers, please contact us for details.
When installing Hargreaves Cast Iron Pavement Lights, it is important to ensure that the opportunity for water to pool on the surface is minimised. Pavement Light units should therefore be installed where possible with a slight fall to ensure water runoff. In addition to this, the pavement lights should not protrude from the surface of the surrounding pavement to prevent it forming a trip hazard.
It is possible to install pavement lights on any substrate provided it is stable, structurally sound and able to support the weight. To secure the Pavement Light unit in place, a waterproof mortar bed needs to be placed below the supporting areas of the casting. It is important to use some temporary supports in order to prevent the mortar from sagging under the weight of the casting before it has had time to set.
All edges of the casting should then be sealed in place with either a hot or cold applied sealant such as Bitumen, Mastic or suitable synthetic sealant. It is important that the unit should be tested for water tightness at the end of installation to ensure the sealing process has been a success.
Due to the density of cast iron, Hargreaves Pavement Lights tend to be large, heavy and unwieldy and present unique challenges during installation. Hargreaves Foundry would therefore recommend that installation is undertaken by a specialist contractor who possess mechanical lifting equipment and have experience in working with products such as these.
